In her report on Press and the Championship, International Arbiter Carol Jarecki reports that this year, media attention seems to be mostly focued on the women players, particularly teenagers Irina Krush and Jen Shahade. But one male participant in the 1997 Interplay US Championship definitely caught the media's eye when he was a rising young Grandmaster--he was even named one of Cosmo's "Most Eligible Bachelors" ! Which GM was it? (answer next week, but if you want a hint, he is a three-time US Champion.)
Answer to last week's Fun Fact: Grandmaster Sammy Reshevsky won his first US Championship title in 1936--and his 7th in 1969!
