Chess GeographyThe World Chess Federation, FIDE, like the International Olympics Committee, is organized as a "federation of federations." It is countries that are members, not individual players. In these days of Super Grandmasters events with million dollar prize funds, the Olympiad is an interesting switch to an event with a wide mix of amateurs and pros. This year, teams from more than 100 countries will participate! Here's the complete list:
