Anand Wins--Again!
The Fontys Tilburg event took place from October 23 - November 4. This strong event included Viswanathan Anand, Kramnik, Zvjaginsev, Korchnoi, Leko, Adams, Sadler, van Wely, Topalov, and Piket. Anand won by half a point, followed by Hungarian Peter Leko and the UK's Matthew Sadler. Anand's victories for the year: Linares, Wijk aan Zee, Madrid, Frankfurt and Fontys Tilburg. Yes, that's every event he's played in since starting the year off as FIDE's World Championship Challenger. Final Standings: 7.5 Anand, 7.0 Leko, 6.0 Sadler, Kramnik, Zvjaginsev; 5.5 Piket, Adams; 5.0 Svidler, van Wely 4.5 Topalov, Lautier; 3.5 Korchnoi. Official Site
FIDE World Youth Event Completes
This event runs from October 25 through November 11. We'll be providing coaches' reports on the US team throughout the event. In addition, the official site is available at www.feda.org, or check the Live game coverage in Spanish (Look for the Marina D'or links). American Vinay Bhat tied for 3rd in the Boys Under 14 group, but ended with 4th on tie-breaks. In the process, he drew with #1 seed and won his games against #2 and 3 seeded players in his section. Elina Groberman also made the top 10 lists, placing 10th in the Girls Under 16 section, while Laura Ross placed 8th in the Girls Under 10. Congratulations to all the participants!

1998 Interplay US Chess Championship - Starts October 30!
1998 Interplay US Chess Championship Feature Section Our feature coverage includes live commentary by GM Michael Rohde during each round, the crosstable and results, and daily feature updates. The preliminary stage consists of two sections of 8 players each in a round robin format. The top two players from each section advance to the Semi-Finals. After the Preliminaries, GM Nick de Firmian and GM Dimitry Gurevich advanced from Group A, while defending Champion Joel Benjamin and 1997 FIDE World Junior Champion Tal Shaked advanced from Group B.
