Woman International Master Sharon Burtman

WIM Sharon Burtman, born in Boston, MA on June 16, 1968, learned how to play chess during an extracurricular activity period in junior high school. She earned the Paul M. Albert Brilliancy Prize in the 1987 US Women's Championship. She won the Championship in 1995 with WGM Anjelina Belakovskaia.

Sharon's other accomplishments include winning the 1989 New England Women's Championship; earning the WIM title in 1989; representing the United States in the Interzonals in 1990 and 1995; and playing on the winning team at the 1999 US Amateur Team West Championship.

Off the board, Sharon enjoys playing tennis, skiing, darts, baseball games, conceptual artwork, eclipse chasing, framing and matting artwork, theme parks (Disneyland, Sea World, and Universal Studios), and woodworking projects.
