Grandmaster John Fedorowicz

Grandmaster John Fedorowicz was born September 27, 1958 in the Bronx, New York. John learned chess from watching the Fischer-Spassky match on TV in 1972 with Shelby Lyman as the commentator. His first tournament was the "E" section of the Westfield, New Jersey chess club championship where he went 11-0 giving him his first rating of 1430!

John's hobbies are cooking, watching sports, playing sports, reading and being a New Yorker. In addition to chess, he also enjoys Scrabble, Risk and Monopoly. John became a professional player in 1978 after earning the international master title and his grandmaster title was obtained at the Dubai Olympiad in 1986.

John has been a second or advisor many times as for Gata Kamsky during his 1996 FIDE World Championship match against Anatoly Karpov in Elista, Kalmykia. Lately John has been involved in coaching kids, giving private lessons and teaching at chess camps. He also works for an English company specializing in current chess opening theory.

John's other chess achievements include tying for the U.S. Junior Championship in 1977 and winning outright in 1978, being U.S. Open champion in 1981, winning the World Open championship at least four times and winning the New York Open in 1989. John has played twice on our Olympiad team and was twice captain. During the Anand � Kasparov World Championship match at New York City's World Trade Center "the Fed" was one of the most popular lecturers.
