Grandmaster Gata Kamsky

GM Gata Kamsky was born in Russia on June 2, 1974, and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. Gata won the Soviet Under-20 Championship twice before immigrating to America in 1989. He was awarded the Grandmaster title after his victory in the 1990 Tilburg Netherlands Interpolis tournament. In 1991, he played his first U.S. Championship and walked away with the title. Since that time, he has been very successful in some of the world's most prestigious chess events. For example, he placed second in the SKA Biel Interzonal in 1993, qualifying for the Candidate Matches. For the 1999 FIDE World Chess Championship, Gata was seeded into the second round.
