ABOUT THE UNITED STATES CHESS FEDERATION

The United States Chess Federation ( USCF) is one of the largest chess federations in the world. Presently, over 94,000 people from all 50 states are paid members of the USCF. Over the years, more than 900,000 different Americans have belonged to the USCF at some time.

The USCF spends over $5,000,000 annually to support chess in the United States. It sanctions thousands of chess tournaments. In April of 2001, the USCF, in conjunction with the Kansas City Regional Chess Council, held Supernationals II, a tournament involving 4,606 school children, in Kansas City, MO.

Founded in Chicago, the USCF has existed since 1939. Its current headquarters are near West Point, NY, a fitting location for an organization devoted to a game with the symbolic military quality of chess. The USCF is one of the more than 160 members of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), the world governing body for chess.

**********************************

The United States Chess Federation, founded in 1939, serves as the governing body for chess in the United States and is devoted to extending the role of chess in American society. It promotes the study and knowledge of the game of chess, for its own sake as an art and enjoyment, and as a means for the improvement of society. The USCF is a not-for-profit membership organization with more than 90,000 members. For more information, please see http://www.uschess.org.
