So far it is not good to be White in the Womens Championships - the record is 1-7 with 2 draws in favor of the black pieces! Tonight Anjelina built up a strong advantage only to see strong resistance by Jennie Shahade hold the draw. Airapetian had a winning position a few moves before her resignation, allowing Olga Sagalchik to join Beatriz at 2-0.
In the absolute sections, Ivanov lasted through another long (83 move) game to go to 2-0; a score equaled only by Serper in his section and Larry Christiansen in the other. The quickie of the round was between Fedorowicz and Gurevich, whose 4 move postmortum had the internet thinking the game went an extra 40%!
Its been pointed out that Roman's loss in round 1 to deFirmian was his first in the Championships since Modesto, 1995.
