GM Bisguier's Commentary

Karpov makes the most of a bad situation by giving up his queen for a rook and minor piece. Worse would be 21. ... Qc7 22. Qd3+ followed by 23. Rxd7 when White would be a clear pawn ahead and still retain a winning initiative. Karpov is attempting to trade off White's attacking pieces and go into an ending that poses technical difficulties for White to win.
