Grandmaster Bisguier's Commentary

White develops his g1-knight on it's most natural square and supports his center. Also seen here is 5. f3 leading to the Saemisch Variation which sometimes leads to White attacking on the kingside and Black attacking on the queenside (particularly if White castles there). Karpov played this successfully against Kamsky (Linares, 1993 in 77 moves). That game continued with 5. ... 0-0 6. Be3 e5 7. Nge2 c6 8. Qd2 Nbd7 9. d5 cxd5 10. cxd5 a6 11. g4.
