Kamsky decides to vary from the Gruenfeld (Games 1 and 5). He opts for the King's Indian Defense. The King's Indian Defense was molded into a strong weapon by Isaac Boleslavsky and David Bronstein in the mid to late 40's. This opening leads to closed structures featuring pawn storms on many fronts. White usually advances on the queenside with the goal of open line for his pieces to penetrate in order to win material or attack Black's king from the side. Black counters on the kingside with a view towards attacking the king. |
