Grandmaster Bisguier's Commentary

Black plays this move to hold onto his pawns at least for the moment. Black had two other alternatives: 57. ... Bd4 and 57. ... Qc2+, however they are no better than the text. The move 57. ... Bd4 leads to a lost bishop and pawn endgame after 58. Qb8+ Qg8+ 59. Qxg8+ Kxg8. The perpetual attempt with 57. ... Qc2+ 58. Kg3 Qe2 59. Qb8+ Kg7 60. Qxb7+ Kg8 61. Qxb6 Qxe1+ 62. Kg4 results in a easily winning queen and pawn ending. (3:13)
