Grandmaster Bisguier's Commentary

Black had to meet the threat of Bxh7+. The non-weakening 12. ... Nf6 could be met by the annoying 13. Bb5+, when after 13. ... Kf8 Black can no longer castle. An active choice was 12. ... Qb6. A move to avoid was 12. ... h6, which weakens the f5-square.

Note that after 12. ... g6, the dark-squared bishop covers the dark squares, and Black's pawns cover the light squares.
