Karpov is playing sharply (maybe he wants to win before the adjournment).

The point is that if 45. Nxd4 Nxd4 46. exd4 Bxg2 and Black is winning the race.

If 45. exd4 Bxf3 (or 45. ... Bd5!) 46. gxf3 Nxd4 and Black looks good. (2:26)
