1. Ng1-f3 Full Game Score ... Next Move |
A very elastic, non-committal, developing move, aiming at the e5 square. Surprisingly, this move caused a bit of a sensation in the early part of this century. Classical players believed that each side had to immediately secure their share of the center (with moves such as 1. e4 or 1. d4). Some still do! Richard Reti was one of the first players to advocate the "hypermodern school" of chess, aiming to control the center with pieces, not pawns. 1. Nf3 fits in very well with the fianchetto of either White bishop (through b2-b3 or g2-g3). |
