Let's take stock here... How do you play on when there is nothing to play on for? You just make some non-weakening moves, centralize your king, and hope for the best. Not a very interesting endgame, but a stronger player would still expect to have some chances to win against a weaker player in a weekend Swiss. Black can try ... f5, ... e5, ... Kf7-e6, and strive for ... d6-d5 in the ending. But if Karpov can't hold this position, he doesn't deserve to be world champion! |
