The only try left, trying to toss in f5-f6 at a convenient moment.

Karpov (Black) sealed his 57th move in this position.

Thoughts at the Adjournment

Today's game was a bit dull, up until late in the ending.

Karpov apparently decided to rely on his defensive skills to make the half-point he needs to end the match. Kamsky played solidly, not taking wild risks (although he may not have allowed himself sufficient chances for a win by taking this approach against the world champion).

If this were an open-ended match (say to 10 wins), the story might have been very different. Clearly, the level of play has deteriorated over the last few games, but that is probably due to the strain of playing virtually every day, with all the adjournments, for well over a month.

With the adjourned position probably a draw (although play will resume on Thursday), we say "Hurrah to the World Champion!"
