Scholastic Chess: My Coach is the Best
My Coach is the Best Because.... Kids, do you think that your chess coach is the best? The USCF believes that all coaches are the best. They are mostly volunteers who love the game or teachers and parents who can see the educational benefits of learning this game. We would like to recognize every coach individually. That's just what our Coach's Spotlight will do.

Write a 150 word essay that tells us what your coach does for your club and why your coach has made the club the best. If you have any pictures of your coach or your club that would be great. Then the U S Chess Federation will recognize these wonderful people on our website.

J. Scott Eddins-Tennessee

My Coach Scott Eddins is the best there is. He always has time for practice even though he lives in a different city and has an hour-long drive home. He is always here to help us with academic help or chess help. He is a solid B class player who always plays at his level; he is tied 2 years in a row for the C class championship in Tennessee. He encourages us to grow in chess by taking us to at least 2 or three tournaments a month, whenever chess players cannot afford it he helps them. He also hired a local master to give us lessons, we pay for it mainly but since our group is small he has to pay for some of it out of pocket. In short he has built up a team that is a strong contender for state champions from a bunch of farm boys in the heart of Tennessee.
