Absolute CC Championship Review
Absolute Player BiosDave BurrisBio from Dec. 1997. Dave is 43, single and works as a section head and mathematician in the R&D division of Warner Lambert. He is an adjunct math professor at a local college and, since 1992, has been the editor of Atlantic Chess News, winner of numerous CJA awards and three Cramer Awards. In 1996, David edited The 1996 U.S. Chess Championships. Dave became a CC Senior Master in 1983. He's played in five USCF Absolute, obtaining two second places and 60% overall. Are Dave's CC accomplishments only limited to domestic play? No Way! Dave has represented the United States in several International Matches as well. If you enjoy playing or defending 6. Bg5 against the Najdorf, you might want to get a copy of Nunn's The Complete Najdorf 6. Bg5, which includes two of Dave's games. Back in 1997 Dave was discussing with the USCF about starting work on a book which would cover all of the Absolute CC Championships, including the games and the players. Dave went on to win the 1997 Absolute Championship but not long after Dave began working on the book he passed away. It wasn't until a couple years ago USCF thought to pick up on the "Absolute Project" and at the very least get it on the website for everyone to enjoy. Needless to say, the project is about ready to be premiered. On behalf of all of the players in the Absolute (past and future) Championships, we thank you. |
