Three-month Membership changed to a Two-month Membership

Three-month memberships (scholastic, youth and adult) were discontinued as of September 3rd, 2014.

To replace the three-month membership there is a new two-month adult membership, priced at $20. The two-month membership is available through the tournament submission process and through TD/A. This membership will include one printed copy of Chess Life magazine. (This two-month membership is aimed primarily at adult players, those under age 25 will generally find our one-year rates to be a much better bargain.)

Reminder:  US Chess Rule 23C reads:  "For the inclusive dates of the tournament, each player must be a member in good standing of the USCF, unless USCF regulations waive this requirement".

Tournament directors are expected to check that all players in their tournaments are current US Chess members or sell them a US Chess membership.  You cannot skip those players or games when submitting the rating report for that event; all ratable games played by all players in a US Chess rated section must be submitted for rating.

Starting on September 3, 2014, there is a $10 "correction" fee (for each non-member in the event) applied should a tournament be submitted where there is one or more non-member who played in that event. However, this fee is NOT intended as an alternative to selling that non-member a US Chess membership at the tournament nor is it intended as a "length of tournament" membership.

US Chess will permit one "correction fee" player for every 50 players in an event.  (An event with 1-49 players gets 1, 50-99 gets 2, etc.)  A affiliate or a TD who abuses the $10 correction fee privilege may have that privilege removed from the events he or she organizes or directs or face other sanctions.

For international players, the one-year $20 'International Online' membership may be a better deal. This membership is available through the TD/Affiliate Support Area. (And as a reminder, players who are GMs, WGMs, IMs or WIMs and who are registered under a country other than 'USA' may play in US Chess rated events without becoming US Chess members.)

US Chess Group Membership Program

Do you know about our group membership program to make US Chess memberships more affordable to US Chess affiliates and schools? US Chess now offers affiliates and schools the opportunity to purchase memberships for K-12 students in bulk at reduced rates. Find out more about this program by contacting Susan Kantor ([email protected]) or visiting our website: https://secure2.uschess.org/voucher.

Another option available to organizers of events involving young players is the Junior Tournament Player program.
