In just one week, the National Youth Action – East and West will commence. This is the first time that the NYA splits into two separate events. The NYA – East will take place at the DoubleTree Miami Mart Airport Hotel & Exhibition Center in Miami, Florida (left) while the NYA – West will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine, California (below). The deadline for the early entry fee has been extended until December 9th! Both events will have the same format and both will be full of “Action.” The main event features nine rounds at G/30 – five games on Saturday and four on Sunday. In addition, the always-fun Bughouse event will take place on Friday at 6:30 pm while the Blitz and Chess Puzzle Solving Contest will take place after the fifth round on Saturday. For the main event, students may register in one of four divisions: K-3, K-6, K-9 or K-12. Trophies will be awarded to the top 20 individuals in each section. In addition, there will be 16 individual class trophies in each of these divisions. Trophies will also be awarded to the top 10 teams (club teams are allowed)! Teams must have at least three players and the top four per team, in a division, count towards the team standings. Sometime after the events, there will be an Internet play-off between the individual winners of each of the two regions. Time is running out so, if you have not done so already, register today!
