The American teams both faltered for the first time at the Olympiad today. The women lost 1-3 to China and the men lost to The Netherlands 1.5-2.5. After a long journey, Nakamura finally arrived in Tromso, but drew quickly against Anish Giri's Sicilian. 7503
Kamsky went down on board two against Erwin L'Ami while Onischuk won vs. Loek Van Wely. GM Varuzhan erred in an instructive endgame vs. Van Kampen. ...Bf5 allowed the forcing sequence Bxb6 and Ke3! when black will eventually find himself in zugzwang and White's king will enter. 7502 GM Hou Yifan, who is now rated 2661, defeated GM Irina Krush while Wenjun Ju won against IM Anna Zatonskih. 7506 7500 ![]()

So far, attendees seem to be pleased with the tournament site.
