Any chess player who signs up for new registration with the United States Chess Federation on Saturday will receive free entry into The National Chess Day Beginners Tournament at 12:00 noon! This event will provide you with your first four rated games in the USCF, putting you on your way to your own chess-strength rating. Players already registered with the USCF may still join with a $5 entry fee, but only those below a 1300 rating -- this is a true beginners-only tournament! With $150 guaranteed prizes -- including $25 to the top brand-new unrated player -- you might kick your rating off with a bang!

And how would we forget our die-hards on National Chess Day?! On Saturday evening, every chess player is invited to the NCD Blitz Tournament -- $5 entry and only five minutes on your clock, for this fun nine-round Swiss event. Another $150 in prizes is guaranteed, handed out to our best Open, U1800 and U1500 players -- and whoever notches the night's biggest upset!

Also in Saint Louis, Living Like Kings opened at the World Chess Hall of Fame with a special appearance by the RZA.

Orlando,Florida

As USCF’s 2014 Chess Club of the Year the Central Florida Chess Club (CFCC) is happy to recognize this important chess weekend (October 10-12, 2014) by holding the Orlando Autumn Open and Chess Day Scholastic.

For our 2014 event we have increased the total prize fund to $7,500 based on just 135 participants with the Scholastic players counted as “half”, but with a 70% guarantee The CFCC has contracted that this GP event will be FIDE rated and held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Orlando at SeaWorld. Guests staying at that site would have free parking and if they decided to bring a family they would be able to go out the hotel’s back gate and be right in the Pedestrian entrance to SeaWorld, thus avoiding their $15 parking fee. Families could even come a few days early or stay a few later to take advantage of this vacation discount. Other hotel perks include high speed internet access, telephones with data port and voicemail, 32” flat screen TV, 24/7 fitness center and shuttle service to nearby Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld theme parks….

And it all starts with a warm welcome of a chocolate chip cookie at check-in.

A special feature of CFCC events is that our Scholastic section  always offer cash prizes and is run with standard tournament time controls, as a way to introduce the participants to what a “real” chess tournament is like. This year their prize fund is $600 for players rated under 1200, as the higher rated students play in the “Adult” sections. But the time control for all but their 1st round would be Game in 120 minutes with a 5 second delay for everyone.

Another feature in Orlando based events, is that Orlando Convention Aids provides organizers with several hundred dollars worth of free gift tickets, and CFCC awards these randomly to attendees; so one needs not do well in chess to win a prize… this event will have over $200 in gift certificates randomly awarded during the event.
