first club member Steve Ferrero who passed away suddenly in 2013. Steve was a staple in NJ chess, one of the most active players in the country, and completely engulfed in talking to chess and analyzing with everyone. He nearly reached master and was known for his gambit play and 1.b3 which he played in nearly every game. FM Arthur Shen topped the field with the only perfect 4-0 score which included 1 GM, 2 IM's, 2 FM's and 3 NM's among the 41 participants. Arthur is just off of his joint second place finish at the Liberty Bell a few weeks ago and even implemented 1.b3 in one game. Last year, $1,000 was raised for St Jude's research hoispital and this year a portion of the entries will b donated to another one of Steve's favorite charities- St Hubert's Animal Hospital. 7804 Read about the first Steve Ferrero Memorial here. |
