The last of
this year's USCF Spring National Chess Championships, the National Elementary, starts
on Thursday. The event will be held at
the beautiful and spacious facilities of the Gaylord Opryland Resort and
Convention Center, May 8 - 10. Andrew Hong, rated 2255, a fourth grader from Saratoga Elementary School in Saratoga, California is the top seed among the almost 2,100 players already registered for this National event! The event has nine different divisions of play, including two for previously unrated players, so all K-6 players regardless of experience or rating are welcome. Individual and team trophies will be awarded in all sections. On Thursday, the day before the main event commences, we will have the always fun Blitz and Bughouse Championships. On Friday morning at 9 AM, our special guest, Grandmaster Irina Krush, the Nation's top active female player, will conduct a 30-game simultaneous exhibition, then starting at 3 PM that day she will take on all-comers on games of Blitz! GM Krush will also give a lecture on Saturday at 4:30 PM followed by a Question-and-Answer session. In addition, we will have meetings and seminars, including the "My First Tournament" seminar, a Scholastic Meeting, and the "Preparing for International Youth Events" seminar. On Saturday at 10 am, members of the USCF Executive Board will be available for a meet and greet. For more information, registration, and the list of trophies for each section and side events, please see http://www.uschess.org/tournaments/2015/elem/ We hope you join us in Nashville! |
