U.S. Champion Hikaru Nakamura drew his first game against Ljubomir Ljubojevic in the Rising Stars vs. Experience NH tournament in Amsterdam (August 20-31).

Team experience GMs Svidler and Nielsen won their first round games, giving an early lead to veterans. Svidler showed nice technique against the only female in the tournament, Hou Yifan, while Peter Nielsen cleaned up on the White side of a King's Indian defense.

Italian American Fabiano Caruana and Loek Van Wely drew in 22 moves while GM Smeets salvaged the Rising Stars honor with this win over Beliavsky.
