Anthony B. Beavers (1990-2010)

Anthony "Ant" Blaine Beavers, a former USCF member from Jonesboro, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, after he was shot and killed at the East Point railway station of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority following a robbery. He was 19. 

Anthony, who was an aspiring police officer, chased down a man who took his new touch-screen cellphone and was shot and killed. He was on his way to his Jonesboro home when he was robbed. 

He was enrolled at Westwood College in Atlanta, majoring in criminal justice. He had graduated from Jonesboro High School in 2008. 

In April 2008 he competed in his first and only USCF-rated tournament, the National High School Championship in Atlanta. In 2009, he captured first place in the adult unrated section of the Clayton County Chess Championship. He was born June 16, 1990 in Gadsden, Alabama. 

He is survived by his parents; Jeff and Michelle Nichols; a brother, William Babcock; two sisters, Ashleigh Babcock and Erin Nichols; aunts, uncles and cousins.
