ARAM H. SEVAGIAN (1932-1991)

Aram Haig Sevagian of Milton, Massachusetts, a life member of both the USCF and Massachusetts Chess Association, died of a stroke on April 22, 1991 in Milton Hospital. He was 58.

He was born May 10, 1932 in Mattapan, Mass., the son of Haig O. and Surpoohy T. Sevagian, and had lived many years in Milton. He graduated from Suffolk University in Boston in 1960 and received a master's degree in education there in 1962. Mr. Sevagian was a chemistry teacher at Braintree (Mass.) High School from 1963 until his passing.

He was also the school's chess advisor and for many years was in charge of the South Shore Scholastic Chess League for schools south of Boston. A tribute to him was paid by the class of 1964 in its yearbook, which said of him: "Only when genius is married to science can the highest results be produced." He was one of the school's most popular teachers. Mr. Sevagian had also been a licensed real estate broker since June 1965.
