Barry G. Baldwin (1953-2009)

Barry G. Baldwin, a USCF member from Newport News, Virginia, formerly of New Jersey, died 10 March 2009. He was 55. He was born November 11, 1953 in Clifton, NJ, the son of George H. and Elinore Baldwin, and had lived in other communities in the Garden State, including Paterson and Lincoln Park, before he moved to Newport News 16 years ago. Mr. Baldwin held a master's degree in English. For more than 20 years, he was a sales manager at Bally's Total Fitness and furthered his career with the sales of time shares.

Mr. Baldwin was an avid chess player. He competed in many tournaments, mostly in New Jersey and New York, over the years. His last event was the 1994 World Open in Philadelphia.

Besides his father, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathy Baldwin; a daughter, Erin Baldwin; and a brother, Christopher Baldwin.
