Dale S. Lyons (1949-2010)
Dale S. Lyons, a USCF member from Milton, Vermont who was one of the most active tournament players in the Green Mountain State, died unexpectedly on January 17, 2010 while participating in the Portsmouth Open in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was 60. Mr. Lyons suffered a fatal heart attack between the third and fourth rounds. He was a longtime member of the USCF and also belonged to the Burlington (Vt.) Chess Club. Not only did he participate in many events in Vermont but also in tournaments in New York and other New England states, His favorite tournaments were those sponsored by the Continental Chess Association.. He was born October 17, 1949 in Burlington, the son of Joseph and Mildred (Pratt) Lyons. He owned for more than 30 years Lyons Auto Repair in Milton. Before then, he worked at Goss Dodge of South Burlington. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Maine, especially in the Bath and Booth Bay area. He also enjoyed the Blue Grass Festival in Swanton, Vermont. He is survived by his brothers and sisters in Vermont: Richard Lyons and Gloria Simpson, both of Burlington, Roderick Lyons of Richmond, Prescott Lyons of Marshfield, and Camellia of Essex Junction; uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces.
