Delacey Alexander Thomson (1914-2009)
Delacey Alexander Thomson, a former USCF member from Miami, Florida, died of congestive heart failure on December 4, 2009. He was 95. Known to many by his nickname of "Stretch," Mr. Thomson had been a resident of Miami for 82 years. He attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables and was a Realtor in Miami for 59 years before he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Besides being an avid chess player, he enjoyed playing bridge and reading. Among his achievements was being singles tennis champion in Florida, where he was ranked 10th or better for 17 years. He was also a Golden Gloves boxing champion in Miami and a diving champion. His funeral was held December 9, 2009 in Hollywood, Florida, followed by burial in Hollywood Memorial Gardens East.
