DONALD E. HANSON (1923-2009)
 
Donald Ellsworth Hanson, formerly of Raritan Township, New Jersey, died on March 17, 2009 in Marquette General Hospital in Michigan. He was 85. Born June 12, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. Hanson grew up in Minneapolis and received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1943. He served in the Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the military, he went to work for Swift in Chicago. He subsequently became involved in the photocopying industry as a research photo chemist, where eventually he and four partners became responsible for the first commercially successful photocopying machine for the AJ Dick Corp. In 1978, he and his wife founded Budget Print Center in Raritan Township. They sold the business in 1984 and retired. In 2004, he and his wife moved to Marquette to live with their son and family. Besides playing chess, Mr. Hanson enjoyed sailing, solving crossword puzzles and doing carpentry projects. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bonnie Kate (Murphy) Hanson; a daughter, four sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
