Erik P. Lemke (1979-2012)

Erik Philip Lemke, a former USCF member from Iowa City, Iowa, died April 16, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was 32. He was born July 17, 1979 in Seattle, Washington and grew up in Iowa - graduating from West High School in 1999 and the University of Iowa in 2003. He became a USCF member at the age of 12, when he competed in the Iowa Elementary School Team Championship in March 1992. He played in other events in Iowa, including winning the Willowwind School Scholastic Tournament in December 1992. He participated in tournaments in 1993 organized by the West High School Chess Club, the Regina Chess Club, the Eastern Iowa Chess Association, and the Iowa State Chess Association.
