Francis Scott Zingheim (Scotty) Scotty died on March 31, 2011 due to suicide. He suffered from Paranoid Schizophrenia with the onset of symptoms in his early 20s. Even while battling chronic mental illness, Scott found pleasure through Chess. He won the Illinois Junior Chess Championship at 17 and recently won the Cumberland County Chess Championship. Scotty reached an impressive US Chess rating over 2300 and achieved the title of National Master. His rating is even more impressive given how few competitions he entered. Some of his games are published for Chess enthusiast to study. Scotty also received a Swimming Scholarship to college; and as a lifeguard he saved a youngster’s life. Scotty is survived by his parents Frank and Ann and his sister Casey. Donations and/or support for effective mental illness advocacy may be made to The National Alliance on Mental Illness at: NAMITN.org or NAMI Tennessee, 1101 Kermit Drive, Suite 605, Nashville, TN, 37217. Francis Scott Zingheim may you rest in peace. |
