Peter J. Karp (1940-2009)
Dr. Peter J. Karp of Needham, Massachusetts, died August 6, 2009 of complications from lymphoma. He was 69. He was born on February 21, 1940, the son of Lewis and Hannah (Frost) Karp, and had lived many years in Needham, where he was a doctor of internal medicine. Dr. Karp was a member of the largest chess club in New England, the Metrowest Chess Club in Natick, Mass., where he played exclusively from January 2003 through June 2005. He leaves his wife, Melanie (Flaumenhaft) Karp; his mother, Hannah Karp of Norwood, Mass.; a son, Jonathan Karp of Washington, DC; a daughter, Lauren Karp Kinghorn of Needham; two grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Palmer, and a brother, Thomas Karp, both of Sharon, Mass. A funeral service was held August 9 in Temple Beth Shalom in Needham, followed by burial in Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon. Obituary submitted by George Mirijanian, Massachusetts Chess Association.
