Richard Clark Ehrman (1956-2008)

Richard Clark Ehrman, a former USCF member from Cambridge, Massachusetts, died of a heart attack on November 19, 2008. He was 51. He was born on December 5, 1956 in Bay Ridge, New York, the son of Stanley and Lillian Ehrman, and had lived most of his life in the Bay State.

He graduated in 1984 from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he served as the college's concert office manager for 25 years. He was an integral part of Berklee's Concert Operations/Special Programs Department and taught "Awareness Through Movement" classes, using the Feldenkrais Method, for Berklee's Performance Division for many years. In addition to working at Berklee, he was a member of various musical groups - including the Agbekor African Drum & Dance Company as well as several jazz and tango groups. An accomplished musician, he collected and played a variety of instruments - including the piano, percussion, melodeon and theremin. He had interests in Zen Buddhism, cycling and science fiction. His chess interests included being faculty leader of the Berklee Colllege of Music Chess Club. In August 2001, he participated in a quick-rated side event at the U.S. Open in Framingham, Mass. that was won by Hikaru Nakamura.

Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, Liz; a brother, Peter Ehrman; a sister, Gaile Amigone; and three nephews.
