900+ Young Chess Competitors Battled in Sacramento, CA for 2008 National Junior High! |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jerry Nash 931-787-1234 x 145 (Crossville, TN) The United States Chess Federation (USCF) held the 2008 U. S. Junior High (K-9) National Chess Championship at the Dallas – Fort Worth Airport Hyatt in Texas starting this past April 4. Play concluded among the over 900 young chess competitors on April 6. Section Champions were: K9 Championship: Michael Lee (WA) with 6.5 points. K9 Unrated: Andre Thorn (MI) with 6.5 points. K9 Under 1250: Eryn Cohen (WA) won with 7.0 points. K8 Championship: There was a 7-way tie at 6.0 points with Alec Getz (NY), Justin Karp (NY), George Qi (TX), Brennen Lee (AZ), Michael Chiang (NY), Matthew Dahl (MN), and Jason Altschuler (TX). K8 Under 1000: Kevin Lugo (NY) won with 6.5 points. K8 Under 750: Jack Bussert (OK) won with 6.5 points. The events Biggest Upset was Jenny Chen (NY), rated 173 beating her opponent rates at 975. Jenny received a $250 scholarship from mychessphotos.com! GM Hikaru Nakamura staged a simultaneous play with several opponents!
