Collegiate Chess Director Sought at Texas Tech Print E-mail

LUBBOCK, TEXAS - Two-time national collegiate chess champion Texas Tech University is looking to hire a Director for its nationally recognized chess program.  Formerly combined with the Head Coach position, the Director position is being separated in order to allow greater focus on chess training, community outreach, and education.

The Director's areas of oversight will include administrative and business operations, financial management, outreach and recruitment planning, marketing and communications, human resources, student development in competitive collegiate chess, and program development.  The Director will be responsible for existing programs and initiatives and will be expected to introduce new efforts that further the development of a university climate and outreach agenda that encourages chess as a vehicle for academic excellence and higher education participation.

In recent years, Texas Tech Chess program has garnered numerous honors.  Among them:

-    The Knight Raiders, members of the student chess club, have won 13 national, 2 state, and 2 regional titles;
-    The Program hosted the highest rated international invitational chess tournament series in the nation: and
-    The Texas University Interscholastic League accepted the event of Chess Puzzle-Solving, which was proposed by the Program.
