FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Release #15 of 2008 May, 13, 2008 Contact: Walter Brown [email protected] The USCF has revised its procedures for adjusting USCF ratings based on play in non-USCF rated FIDE events to include more USCF members. Effective with the April 2008 FIDE Ratings List and the June 2008 USCF Rating List, most USCF members registered with FIDE as USA players will have their USCF ratings adjusted for their play in FIDE rated events that were not already USCF rated. These adjustments will be made after each quarterly FIDE Ratings List is issued. These adjustments will be made for: 1. USCF members with a published FIDE rating and listed as USA in FIDE records who played in any FIDE rated events for a FIDE Ratings List that were not already USCF rated. 2. USCF members without a published FIDE rating but listed as USA on FIDE records who played as representatives of the USCF in designated FIDE Championship events, such as the World Youth Championships. 3. USCF members who have a published FIDE rating but who are not listed as USA on FIDE records who played in FIDE rated events that were not also USCF rated, providing they have paid a fee to have those events included in their USCF rating. That fee must be paid before the start of the FIDE rated event. In computing these adjustments, the player's current USCF rating as of the beginning of that event and the date the adjustments are computed will be used. For each of that player's FIDE rated opponents, their FIDE ratings for that event will first be converted to the equivalent USCF rating using the conversion formula specified in the USCF's rating system and then those converted ratings will be used to compute the change in that player's USCF rating from that event. The adjustment will be for 80% of the change in their rating (per the USCF ratings formula). For a player who would have earned bonus points under the USCF ratings formula, 100% of the bonus points will be included in the adjustment. Because of the timing of when the USCF and FIDE generate their respective ratings lists, it will probably take two months for those adjustment to be posted, so for example adjustments for events rated for the April 2008 FIDE Ratings List were part of the June 2008 USCF Ratings List. |
