Official Press Release June 29, 2009 Contact: Franc Guadalupe [email protected] Florida’s own and newest International Master (effective 1 July) Daniel Ludwig (USCF Rating 2542) is, as of now, the top seed in the Masters Division of the 2009 US Class Championships to be held in Boca Raton, Florida, 17-19 July. This event is an official U.S. Chess Federation national championship. The top division of the US Class has been dominated by former Floridians in the last two installments of these National Championships, both held in Houston. In 2007, the winner was GM Alejandro Ramirez, originally from Costa Rica and former resident of Central Florida. When GM Ramirez left Florida, he was a 10-year old rated 1850. He returned from his native country six years later, as a Grandmaster, to enroll in University of Texas at Dallas. Another former Floridian, IM Daniel Fernandez, won in 2008. At age 11, Fernandez became one of the youngest national masters ever! Daniel also attended UTD but later transferred to UT-Brownsville where he completed his college degree.
