Franklin Campbell has been named as a recipient of the Silver Bertl von Massow Award for 10 years of Outstanding Service to the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF). The Award will be presented at the ICCF Congress in Leeds, England in September. The criteria for earning the von Massow Awards are as follows per ICCF Marketing director Eric Ruch: "These medals in Gold and Silver are awarded respectively for 15 and 10 years of faithful service to ICCF as the Delegate of a National Federation, as member of the Executive Board, Management Committee or Commissions, of Zonal organizations or as a Tournament Director, as well as Team Captain of winning or highly placed teams in Olympiads or Continental (Zonal) Team Tournaments". Franklin’s multi-faceted record of service over the period of 1999-2009 to the ICCF has been varied and distinguished. A few highlights are summarized below: • ICCF Press Officer 1999-2000 • Webmaster of Champions League (2003-Present) • ICCF Server Tables Coordinator • Served on the webserver commission • Team member of webserver support - wrote the guideline for TOs/TDs of the webserver • Tournament Director for several ICCF friendly events or US events on the webserver • Founder of The Campbell Report www.correspondencechess.com since 1998 - received the "Friend of ICCF" award (2005) • Webmaster for the ICCF-US www.iccfus.com/index.htm national federation site, received the "Friend of ICCF" award (2003) • ICCF-US games/crosstables archivist • Tournament Director for 4th NAPZ Championship, 4th Pacific Area Team Tournament and 2nd USCCC Email Final • Awarded International Arbiter title (2004 ICCF Congress in Mumbai, India) • Captain, ICCF-US Olympiad Teams (OLY17P, OLY17F, OLY18P) • Attended several ICCF Congresses as Delegation member and wrote up daily blogs of Congress business Aside from covering almost every criteria listed in the above citation, Franklin has also served as an outstanding Chess Journalist as evidenced by the multiple awards that his website has garnered from the Chess Journalists of America. In addition he has been a member for many years of the U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) Correspondence Chess Committee. Up to 2005 he was the webmaster and archivist for the APCT. His invaluable counsel is an asset that the ICCF-US specifically and the ICCF community in general much appreciate. We are all indeed fortunate to be the beneficiaries of Franklin’s expertise and largess. We congratulate Franklin for this well-deserved honor. |
