(Crossville, TN) The U.S. Chess Federation Scholastic National K-12 Chess Championship, was held December 11-13, 2009 at the Hilton Aanatole Dallas located in Dallas, Texas. 1211 young chess enthusiasts came from all across the U.S. to participate.

We congratulate all players who participated which includes the following section winners: 

K-12 section winners:

Kindergarten: Joaquin Perkins (CA) rated 1068, final score 7.0;
1st grade: Awonder Liang (WI) rated 1617 finished with 6.5;
2nd grade: Rayan Taghizadeh (CA) rated 1567 finished with 7.0;
3rd grade: Ruifeng Li (TX) rated 1828, final score 6.5;
4th grade: Jeffery Xiong (TX) rated 2072 finished with 6.5;
5th grade: Christopher J. Wu (NJ) rated 2119 finished with 6.5;
6th grade: James A. Black (NY) rated 1858, final score 6.5;
7th grade: Jarod M. Pamatmat (TX) rated 2202 finished with 6.5;
8th grade: Vincent Zhang (TX) rated 2006 finished with 6.5;
9th grade: Michael Chiang rated 1992 from NY and Justin Karp rated 2005 also from NY tied with final scores of 6.0:
10th grade: Matthew Liu (TX) rated 1944 finished with 6.5;
11th grade: Marc Tyler (NY) rated 2490 finished with 7.0;
12th grade: William C. Ong (TX) rated 2082 finished with 6.5.

Winner of the Blitz K-6 was James A. Black of NY with a score of 11.0 and Raven M. Sturt of NY rated 2315 won the Blitz K-12 with a final score of 11.5.

J. Tan and J. Williams took the title of Bughouse Champions with a team score of 9.0.

Sonny Kamberi of LA, rated 2380 won the Parents & Friends Rated with a final score of 4.0; Daniel E. Collier of OK won the Parents & Friends Unrated with a final score of 3.0. The Parents & Friends Combined was one by the team of Ruth Fermin and her mom, Jasmine with a total score of 5 points.
