(Crossville, TN) City of Crossville Mayor, J. H. Graham III was at the U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) Headquarters, located at 137 Obrien Drive in Crossville, on January 13, 2010 at 1pm to determine the ballot order for the U.S. Chess Executive Board Special Election. A double-blind drawing procedure was used. Three members of the U.S. Chess Federation have entered the race to win one of two seats currently available on USCF’s Executive Board. U.S. Chess Federation members who are entitled to vote, approximately 38,000, will be sent a ballot in June 2010. The ballot order for the three contenders is as follows: 1. Gary Walters, Ohio 2. Sam Sloan, New York 3. Mike Nietman, Wisconsin Members who want to take part in the voting are required to mail their ballot back to Crossville, TN. The ballots received by the deadline will be counted beginning on July 21st of 2010 in Crossville, TN. The Special Election is to elect two new US Chess Federation Executive Board Members to one year terms. The U.S. Chess Federation Executive Board is made up of seven officers. Current Executive Board members are: Jim Berry of Oklahoma, President; Ruth Haring of California, Vice President; Randy Bauer from Iowa, Vice President of Finance; Bill Goichberg of New York and Michael Atkins of Virginia Members-at-Large. USCF Executive Director Bill Hall of Tennessee serves as Secretary. The United States Chess Federation (USCF), founded in 1939, serves as the governing body for chess in the United States and is now headquartered in Crossville, Tennessee. USCF is devoted to extending the role of chess in American society. It promotes the study and knowledge of the game of chess, for its own sake as an art and enjoyment, and as a means for the improvement of society.
