NEW YORK, January 27--The North American
Youth Championship was created in 2004 by FIDE Americas. The first North American Youth (2004), was organized by Beatriz Marinello in Boca Raton, Florida along with Jon Haskel. Since it's inception it has been organized in the United States, Canada and Mexico. We are very excited to bring it back to the United States for the second time since it's creation. This FIDE event exposes young players to international competition, obtain FIDE ratings, FIDE titles, and provides a setting that nurtures cultural exchanges amongst young players. Bringing this youth event to the New York area is a great opportunity for the top players in the region because it allows them to compete on an international level while significantly reducing the cost that comes with traveling abroad to compete in tournaments of this caliber. Participation in international competitions such as this also prepares talented young players for the most prominent youth events, which are the Pan American Youth Championship and ultimately the World Youth Championship. The top boy and the top girl in each section will qualify to play in the 2012 Pan American Youth Championship, as well as obtaining the FIDE Candidate Master title. We already have confirmation from the Bahamas, Canada and we are also expecting participation from Mexico. This will be an event with a very nice international flavor to it. We are prepared with bilingual staff and are very excited to welcome the chessplayers.
