USCF life member Harvey J. Burger of Springfield, MA, died Jan. 2, 2007 at the age of 74. Mr. Burger, a former member of the Massachusetts Chess Association board of directors, organized tournaments in western Massachusetts for about 40 years. He played a major role in organizing the annual AIC Opens for the Pioneer Valley Chess Association in Springfield for many years. At the time of his death, Mr. Burger was a resident of the Wingate Nursing Home in East Longmeadow, MA.
