It is with great sadness that we report via Rob Huntington of Wayland that former MACA member Alan D. Schaefer died Thursday, August 28, at the age of 57 in Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Al was born Nov. 8, 1950 in Illinois and raised in Wisconsin but lived many years in Massachusetts before moving back to Wisconsin in June 2007. While in the Bay State, Al was an active member of the Metrowest Chess Club in Natick. His last appearance there was in May of this year, when he played a side game in the MCC 25th Anniversary Swiss. Al was a regular member of the Waukesha Chess Club. A celebration of his life will be held in September in Framingham. The specific date, time and place will be announced.
