Ralph H. Sharper, Jr. passed away on September 30, 2004 in New York City. Ralph resided in Middletown, New York and is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann, daughters Holly and Raqual Eva and his beloved granddaughter, Hazel Monet Yarber. He was predeceased by his wife, from a previous marriage, Yvonne Sally.

There will not be visitation but memorial services are planned as follows:

Ralph Henderson Sharper, Jr. aka Hamfat, Dingbag, widely known as the second greatest chessplayer in Orange County, was a driving force for chess in Orange County. His unique style and personality will be sorely missed by chessplayers and "poor excuses for chessplayers" alike.
