Who:

4 top Grandmasters from the 1997 Preliminaries. Player Bios available. Two semi-final matches were played: Christiansen-Seirawan and Kaidanov-Benjamin. Each match was "best of 4 games," 1 game each day. The two match winners advance to the Finals.

 

What:

The best of the best meet in the quest for the national title. Time controls: 40 moves in 2 hours, then 20 in 1, then Game in 60 minutes, for a maximum of 8 hours per game.
