The top two players in each 8 player division will continue to the Semi-Finals.

USCF ratings are shown as of August 1997. Players were assigned their position in the crosstable based on lots drawn at the opening ceremonies. Lots are used because this is a single round robin, not a double. Therefore the assigning of colors is made by lot.

In Division 1,Benjamin and Christiansen tie for first and will advance to the Semifinals which begin on Wednesday. In Division 2, Kaidanov and Seirawan advance. Players will be cross-paired for the Semifinals--a player from Division 1 paired against a player from Division 2. Pairings will be Kaidanov-Benjamin, Christiansen-Seirawan, colors not yet determined.
