Grandmaster Bisguier's Commentary

White's last two moves go together: 8. h3!? avoids any pins, and so his bishop can take up the more active development seen here (rather than Be2).

Note that the Bd3 defends the e-pawn, making a b7-b5 advance by Black less attractive.

However, on this square the bishop is slightly more exposed to a future c5-c4 thrust by Black (a common option for the second player, freeing the c5-square for a knight).
